Reconstructing chamanga: improving public space in post-earthquake ecuador
On April 16th 2016, a magnitude-7.8 earthquake devastated coastal Ecuador, killing over 700 people just one month before being rattled once again by a second magnitude 6.8 quake. Roughly 10,000 buildings and 560 schools were either damanged or destroyed, affecting mostly small communities in fishing villages along the coast, where sixty to seventy percent of houses collapsed. This two-week workshop intends to contribute to the efforts and work being developed by the local institutions and academic partners.

We’re not good at talking directly about menstruation. Hidden behind our embarrassment is a cultural stigma that results in gender inequality and causes real harm to women, girls and those who menstruate when they miss school, work and recreation activities.

Melbourne's newest playground the result of asking children what they want
What would a playground look like if you asked children what they wanted before you built it? When it came time to revamp the playground at Lilydale Lake Park in Melbourne's outer north east, the local council decided to find out. Yarra Ranges Council consulted with local primary school children, asking them what they wanted out of the redevelopment.
